Careers in Media Technology at NYU

July 1-2, 2017  |  In partnership with Dolby, Bose, Sonos, Spotify, and Pandora.

In this 2 day workshop, students learned 10 key industry roles from the world’s leading digital media, consumer electronics, and music companies. Participants were able to build their portfolio and industry skills, as well as meet industry pros as they work on real-world product design challenges to commercialize new products.


Stanford Pandora Challenge (supporting Tegan and Sara)

May 19, 2017  |  In partnership with Pandora, Warner Bros Records, and the Tegan and Sara Foundation.

In this music business and marketing workshop, Stanford students used music, data, technology, and marketing to launch an initiative to make fans safer and more comfortable at live music events for members of the LGBTQ community, concluding the event with a pitch for a national social impact marketing campaign.

We partnered with Real Industry to expose the students to the Pandora Artist Marketing Tools; educate them on how to use them to run a marketing campaign for an artist; encourage them to think creatively about how to apply them to the specific use case with the Tegan and Sara Foundation.

Create3D: 3D Printing Designathon

Real Industry was a proud sponsor and attendee of Create3D, UC Berkeley’s annual 3D printing designation. In this event, students were encouraged and mentored to developed a marketable product that motivates people to lead healthier lives. Students learned from mentors at companies such as Autodesk, Raise3D, and Turtle Beach.


U-M Center For Entrepreneurship Presents Kara Swisher

At this invitation-only evening of networking and discussion, hosted at the stunning Autodesk Gallery, invitees met with 50 of the best student entrepreneurs visiting from the University of Michigan, as well as over 75 Real Industry mentors, executives, and thought leaders. Kara Swisher, the keynote speaker, engaged participants with her talk on leadership at the junction of tech and politics.

Design for Audio Technology Challenge

This flagship partnership between Autodesk and Real Industry gave students the opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas, amplify their portfolio and future career skills, and present their designs to audio industry leaders. Real Industry facilitated judging and collaboration between engineering leaders and designers from Bose, Sonos, Sennheiser, and Turtle Beach.

The challenge was a unique blend of kick-off events (UC Berkeley Design Challenge: Audio & Education and Create3D: UC Berkeley Designathon) and an online challenge. The online challenge reached over 10,000 students, across 70 countries. Students submitting over 1,025 headphone, speaker, and earbud designs!

Real Startup Ideation Day at Stanford University

This event was an opportunity for students to come and give their startup ideas some gas, some of which came in teams and with prototypes of their ideas. At Ideation Day, students got a taste of what it takes to join the Stanford Arts Intensive Next Stage: Real Startup in the upcoming Summer.


Stanford Women in Business Presents: Women in Music Panel

At this SWIB panel, participants heard from three successful women in the music industry. From artist management to mastering engineering, to executive management, these speakers exposed their diverse journeys and how their gender identity has influenced them. This event featured Piper Payne (Mastering Engineer at Coast Mastering), Jami Stigliano (Music Industry Consultant at ICONIC Artist Management), and Stephanie Barnes (Senior Manager Corporate Communications at Pandora).

McGill Tech Week Workshop

January 23, 2017  |  In partnership with LANDR and Turtle Beach.

In this workshop, students gained hands-on experience in applying marketing skills to the ever growing music, gaming, and entertainment technology industries through work on real-world product design challenges with executives from LANDR. This workshop enabled students to better translate their college-learned skills to a specific job, while teaching them about the opportunities available for them in the music, digital media, entertainment technology, and consumer electronics industries. This workshop gave students an insight into how marketing actually works and aided them in developing their professional network.

How Industry Really Works (CCRMA Colloquium)

November 16, 2016

In this session, Jay LeBoeuf, Executive Director of Real Industry, shared stories about how to make research more user-oriented and what the state of the music and audio technology industry is. Students evaluated their career options outside of the Knoll and gained an understanding of how leading audio companies take products from ideation to commercialization.
